Glass Door is a homeless charity based on the Kings Road in Chelsea. It operates the largest emergency shelter network in the country and is one of the only open-access shelters in London, which means anyone in need can turn to them (most shelters require a referral from a council or other agency, and many homeless people struggle with these administrative demands). In order to remain open-access, they do not take any funds from government sources and rely entirely on grants and the generosity of individuals, churches, schools and other groups.
Every night during the coldest 22 weeks of the year, about 120 women and men stay in their church-based shelters, which provide a safe, warm, dry place to sleep. Year-round, their guests can also access daytime services where they eat lunch, take showers, do laundry and speak to caseworkers to help them finding housing, jobs and other support.
The Glass Door Sleep Out is an annual event where people come together and sleep under the stars in Duke of York Square, Chelsea to raise awareness and funds for the homeless shelters. This year it is taking place on Friday 5th October.
Silks PR & Marketing started to help Glass Door raise awareness of their annual Sleep Out in 2017 by issuing press releases to the national and local press. In June 2018 we helped them promote their Homeless Stories by producing another press release and we have produced a press release about the 2018 Sleep Out.
